Diet For Glowing Skin
Skin care is inportent externally as well as internally. For a healthy, glowing skin, you need to keep a few pointers in mind.
SOME FOODS GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN:
Fruits:
Fruits are vital for good health of the skin. Fruits contain plenty of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals - every bit of it is essential for a glowing skin. Include fruits in your daily diet.
Although berriers have been rated as high antioxidant fruits, all fruits promote healthy skin. Vitamin C present in gooseberries, kiwi fruit, guava, blackcurrent and citrus fruits, helps build collagen in the skin.
Vegetables:
These are good sources of antioxidants as also vitamins, minerals and fibre. Green leafy vegetables in particular have been associated with skin health because of their richness in beta carotene, vitamins C and B, selenium and water content. These nutrients reduce the free radical damage to the skin, and help prevent skin problems like eczema and scaling.
Carrot and pumpkin are also good sources of beta carotene which is an essential antioxidants.
Whole grains:
Even though grains from a good part of a diet here, many fail to eat them in their natural and whole form. Refined cereals like white raice, maida, and white bread do not cantain the goodness of whole grains like unpolished rice, whole wheat flour (atta), whole wheat bread, ragi etc..
Whole grains contain vitamins B and E which are important for skin health.
Sprouts:
Its always nice to include some sprouted pulses in a meal because they are easily digestible, and Contain an increased amount of vitamins and minerals when compared to the unsprouted pulses, and they also contain more fibre and moisture. All these work towards a better skin.
Nuts and seeds:
Even though much has been said about the fat content of nuts, you need to remember that nuts and seeds also contain other nutrients like protein, vitamin E and zinc. Some of nuts contain good amounts of the healthy omega 3 fats too. All these are skin nutrients.
Fluids:
Just like a moisturiser is an important external application on the skin, liquids are all important for internal hydration to keep your skin moist. Water, herbal tea, green tea, butter milk, coconut water, rasam, and lime juice are some of the fluids that help maintain moisture and give some nutrients benefits.
Some tips for a healthy skin
1. Eat healthy. Avoid crash diets. Stay away from fried foods, sweets, and desserts
2. Wash your face and hands when you return home to remove dust and dirt. Use a mild soap to cleanse
3. Protect your skin from harsh sunlight with an umbrella or cap, and sunscreen
4. Exercise daily, sleep adequately
5. Avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol
6. Maintain stress at low level
7. Prevent constipation
8. Get help from a dermatologist if you have skin problems
No single food item or diet will give you perfect skin. A healthy lifestyle makes for a healthy skin.
